Danny Wiley is a graduate from the University of West Georgia where he ran for the West Georgia Wolves as a distance runner in both the track and field and cross country programs.
Danny is currently a distance and track coach at Montcalm Secondary School.
London Legion wins 6th straight Ontario Indoor Combined Events Championship
Athletes win 2 Gold, 1 Silver in near record breaking performances

London Legion athletes competing for Royal Canadian Legion District A, Provinicial Command won a record 11 medals, including 5 gold, 2 Silver, and 4 Bronze Medals. Davis Edward set the first Ontario record of 2012, in the 60mh. Three other athletes were less than .30 sec from setting new provincial records in this first meet of the indoor season. Davis also won a gold in the ultra competitive 200m event. Congratulations to all athletes for wonderful opening week performances.

Coach attends IAAF/USATF Sprint/Hurdles Academy at U.S. Olympic Training Centre

London Legion Head Coach Sandy Cooper-Ryder(centre left) attended a week long conference with 47 of the best sprint hurdle coaches in the world. The IAAF/USATF Sprint/Hurdle Academy course continues for the next 6 months, with further case studies and course assignments. The course was held at the United States Olympic Training Centre in Chula Vista, California.

London Legion welcomes new coach, Kevin Vanderleeuw.
Kevin is a graduate of Redeemer University (B.A Kinesiology). He played four years of OCAA (Ontario College Athletic Association) soccer from 2007-2011. He also played one year of OCAA volleyball (2007). In Kevin’s first year of soccer he was named Rookie of the year and won the OCAA Men’s Indoor Soccer Championship. In his senior year Kevin was named CCAA (Canadian Colleges Athletic Association) Academic All-Canadian. He was also named OCAA League All-Star as well as Redeemer University College Men’s Soccer M.V.P. Kevin spent time volunteering as a Men’s and Women’s Volleyball Student trainer and clinical assistant at Redeemer University. In high school, Kevin competed in shot-put, discus, and javelin. Kevin is thrilled to be able to work with young track athletes and help them develop their skills and abilities.
Kevin will be coaching our expanding Speed and Agility program and will be helping with our Throws program. Kevin is the 7th teacher coach integrated into our coaching development program.
Club to lead major 2012 MTA & Athletics Ontario Championships

London Legion has been awarded 2 major 2012 Ontario Championship Meets.
In August, Civic Holiday Weekend, London Legion and Niagara Olympic Club, are managing the 2012 Athletics Ontario Bantam, Midget and Yout Championship.
In October 2012, London Legion repeats as host club for the 2012 Ontario Minor Track & Field Cross Country Championship, to be held at Fanshawe Lake on October 27, 2012.
Track Time 4 Children program starts on Saturday mornings.

All London Legion programs moved indoors this week including the popular Track Time 4 Children's program that runs every Saturday morning at 9:30 AM at the Agriplex at the Western Fair.
Today over 25 children participated in race preparation and track and field fundamentals, and initial time trials.

First Year Midgets impress at Athletics Ontario XC Championship

London Legion Midget Girls XC Team placed 5th at the Athletics Ontario XC Championship held today in Guelph. The team comprised on Mackenzie Mayers (Silver Medal), Charlotte Prouse (Bronze Medal) Mackenzie Streefkerk, Molly Miller and Mackenzie Martin placed 5th, only 5 points out of 3rd place and only 15 points away from team gold. All of these athletes have one more year of eligibility in the Midget grouping
Our Midget Boys Team of Muhamed Sirage, Craig Klomp, Ryan Prete and Ben Harris placed 6th in the team competition. Craig Klomp was 10th overall. Other participants included Jackson Mayers 5th, and Charlotte Prouse 20th in the Bantam grouping.

Kelley's represent team at the start of Days of Remembrance week

London Legion elementary athletes Leslie and Laura Kelley participated in the start of the Days of Remembrance week in London at the Lambeth Cenataph.

London Legion High School athletes competiting for their high school teams won OFSAA Championship medals. Mackenzie Mayers (centre right), and Charlotte Prouse (centre right) won 3rd and 4th place medals in the Midget Girls group. St. Mary's athlete Craig Klomp, won the bronze medal in the Junior Boys category. These are the best results ever from our growing XC high performance program.

London Legion Elementary XC Teams placed exceptionally well at the 2011 Ontario MTA XC Championship, held at Fanshawe Lake.
Our Mite and Tyke won team gold medals, and our Atoms boys placed second. Our girls teams won silver medals in the Tyke & Atom Divisions. Our Senior teams would have placed very well but several athletes were preparing for OFSAA XC in Ottawa.

Welcome All American Claudio Dias to coaching staff

Claudio Dias played four years of NCAA soccer at Plattsburgh State University in New Yorkfrom 2003-2006. In his senior year he was named 1st Team All Conference, 1st Team All Region, and an All American. After University he had a short stint training with Portimonenese Sport Club of Portugal. His soccer coaching experience spans from youth all the way to the university level.
Through 2007-2008 Claudio coached at the Toronto Benfica Soccer Academy, and he was an assistant coach for Brampton Boavista Football Club in the Ontario Soccer League. In 2008 he also coached the girls U-14 Plattsburgh Football Club. At the University level he was the assistant coach at Plattsburgh State University during the 2008 season, and the assistant at Frostburg State University, in Maryland, from 2009-2011. Duringhis time at Frostburg,he earned his Masters in Education, specializing in physical education. In 2010 he received my National Coaching License (Soccer) from the NSCAA. Claudio is currently at Althouse in the Bachelor of Education program at Western University..
Claudio is the fifth teacher coach, working in the London Legion High Performance and Development programs, that have graduated to make contributions to coaching in Elementary and High School T&F programs across Ontario.

Welcome 2-time All Canadian CIS Athlete Nancy Spreitzer to coaching staff
Basketball & T&F Athlete won CIS/OUA Community Award and U of Waterloo T&F MVP

London Legion welcomes 2 time CIS All Canadian athlete Nancy Spreitzer to our coaching staff. Nancy was a University of Waterloo basketball player and a member of the T&F team running sprints, long jump and triple jump. Nancy was the U of Waterloo T&F MVP in her graduating year.
Nancy is currently attending Althouse College (UWO) and will be helping with the Elementary Track/SAC programs. Nancy has been recognized by the community of Kitchener-Waterloo for her volunteer work with children, and has been a tireless fundraiser for children's sports equipment and the K-W Food Bank. Nancy was also recognized by the OUA and CIS, winning the Community Service Award in 2011. Her full bio is in our coaches section.
Nancy is the fourth teacher coach, working in the London Legion High Performance and Development programs, that have gone on to make contributions to coaching in Elementary and High School T&F programs across Ontario.
Collette Tesfaye starts season 7 of High Performance Sprints October 3, 4:30 @ Banting

Collette Tesfaye starts her 7th year of High Performance coaching for the London Legion sprint program on Monday & Wednesday at 4:30 and Friday at Brescia Hill during the month of October.
Collette's sprint program will remain outdoors until it is too cold, and it will shift to the Agriplex at the Western Fair, Mon and Wednesday at 6:30 PM. Welcome back Collette.

This weekend 9 London Legion athletes make their national debut in track and field competition at the Canadian Legion Track & Field Championship, held at Terry Fox Stadium in Ottawa. In Ottawa, 12 London Legion athletes are vying for Canadian Championship experience and titles including Christine MacNeill (left), Nicole Setterington and Alysha Newman (right) who attended the 2011 World Youth Games representing Canada. Club athletes with national rankings attending this meet are Carolyn Adams (#2 HJ), Locky Butcher (#3 HJ, #4 hurdles, Kyle Hayes #3 Ontario, Ashley Stoyanovich #7 hurdles, #5 Will Potter (300mh), Mackenzie Mayers #3(800m, 1200m) and newcomer Davis Edwards #7 (200mh). Unvailable, for this meet is newly minted Ontario Pentathlon record holder, Jonathan Loos ranked #2 in Canada as an underage Midget, #8 ranked 300mh Chase Koneckny and #7 ranked Youth high jumper and the Ontario Junior Champion Ali Baker.
In Hershey PA, Camryn Steckel (cover top bar second from left - 800m) and Charlotte Prouse (cover bar top left 1600m) are competing against the best elementary athletes in North America.

MaNeill runs PB, sets new Canadian Record; Tesfaye 10th at Pan Am Juniors

The temperature is hot, but the competition at the Pan Am Junior's is even hotter. The 2011 Pan Am Junior Championship is in Miramar, Florida.
Club athletes Gabriel Tesfaye placed 10th in the 110m hurdles and Gregory MacNeill ran a blistering 13.65(PB) in the first heat for a new Canadian record. Gregory had a collision with another athlete in the final. Gregory's time was the 3rd fastest time at this year's competition.

Carolyn Adams soars over 1.70m to win OFSAA Gold

Carolyn Adams was announced today as a member of Team Ontario for the 2011 Canadian Youth Championship. This is Carolyn's first selection to an Ontario Team.
Carolyn, the #2 ranked Youth high jumper in Canada, is a two time OFSAA high jump champion. Carolyn's personal best for 2011 is 1.70. Teammate Ali Baker has a 2011 PB of 1.65 and is currently ranked #7 in Canada.
Congratulations Carolyn.

Forty three elementary aged athletes from London Legion participated in the 2011 Ontario Minor Track & Field Championship in Guelph, Ontario this weekend.
Our Tyke Boys 4X400 Relay team smashed a long standing provincial relay record by over 4 seconds. Congratulations to the team shown celebrating in the picture at left. These young men have helped set London Legion's 90th Provincial Record.

Camryn Steckel and Charlotte Prouse named to Hershey Zone 1 Team
July 14, 2011 Hershey Pennsylvania
London Legion athletes Camryn Steckel (800m) and Charlotte Prouse (1600m) were named today to the Hershey Zone 1 Team.
Hershey Zone 1 includes Ontario and nine regional US states including Michigan and Ohio. Camryn and Charlotte had the best times of all athletes in Zone 1.
Camryn and Charlotte are the 5th and 6th London Legion elementary athletes chosen to Hershey regional teams for the Hershey North American Championship later in August.
Team Leader Bud Willis and partner Sally Chamberlain have produced 2 Hershey North American Champions.
