I have had a number of requests to provide more information about LETS Race, our program to help elementary athletes prepare for their upcoming Elementary T&F Championships.  When we started London Legion, we had numerous requests from families to help prepare elementary athletes for track & field championships.  We applied for a grant from the London Community Foundation for a fully automated timing system, because we had some ideas on how to best provide quality services to athletes and their families.  We thank the London Community Foundation every time we run a race with this incredible equipment.

A bit about our philosophy on these competitions.  First, these meets are designed to teach and coach elementary athletes how to race.  Great coaches like Bud and Sally and our student athlete volunteers help athletes with preparing for a race, running a race and cooling down after a race.  Race preparation is so very important.  I can't tell you how many times, I have heard from parents that  London Legion athletes are among the best prepared athletes in the Province.  Thank you coaches.

Second, our major emphasis is on personal bests.  We do not encourage or even recognize winning or losing.  We do these meets to give elementary athletes a chance to learn.  We recognize times only, and work together as a team, athletes, coaches and parents, to better those times as much as possible.  We publish only pictures, without names, so that families and athletes can have a record of performances over time.  These records help our coaches determine which events our elementary athletes are best at, over time.  These finish line pictures use the same technology that is used in the Olympic Games and are sold for over $20 each at most meets.  We publish these pictures for free for families to view and download off of our website or email to family members anywhere in the world.  These pictures are great keepsakes for athletes and families.

Third, these meets are open, to all of our members and to non-members.  Non-members need to register,one-time, for $10 and then each race is $2 after that each week.   The $10 goes to the Minor Track & Field Association for insurance purposes.   Invite your friends, and family, everyone is welcome

Finally, these meets are meant to be fun.  We have a very social group of elementary athletes.  We are thrilled that they like to train together, compete together and have fun together.  It is a tribute to our coaches that our athletes do so much hard work, yet have fun in the process.   These meets are designed to help our youngest athletes feel very comfortable competing.  Everyone is invited to provide  encouragement for all athletes and especially for our very young participants.

I can't say it enough, these meets are the most fun events to watch in all of track & field.

I hope this backgrounder helps our newer families with some additional information

Thanks Joe
