Lexi Aitken wins 2 Gold Medals at Americas Youth Olympic Selection Trials

Lexi Aiken, selected to represent Canada, won 2 gold medals at the 2014 Youth Olympic Trials, held in Mirarmar, Florida.  Lexi's time in the 100mh was 13.65 and she ran a season opener 1:00.92 in the 400mh.  Two other America's trials will be held in the Caribeen and South America that will determine athletes chosen from the Americas for the 2014 Youth Olympics.  Lexi's performances will be shown on the London Legion YouTube Channel.

Over 30 chilren from London and area competed at the 2014 Ontario Minor (Elementary) T&F Championship held today at York University.  Club athletes totalled team points resulting in an 8th place team total.  Several athletes were individual medalists and will be highlighted soon. Personal bests by all athletes were accomplished.  Congratulations Team Leaders Bud Willis, Sally Chamberlain and Denise Kussner-Jalal.

March 22-23, 2014, York University, Toronto, ON

London Legion sent 11 athletes, most of any club in Ontario, to the 2014 Athletics Ontario Indoor Combined Events T&F Championship.  Five medals were won by club athletes, including 1 record breaking peformances and four combined events scores within striking distance of new Ontario records.  Congratulations to Tyrell Mairs (2305 pts), Tess Verhoeven (2707 new Record), Liam Mather, Locky Butcher (3334 pts), and Tatiana Desender Bronze (2887) in her first ever combined events meet.  Newcomers to the combined events included great performances by Madelyn Aarts 4th, Kylie Paliani 5th, and Alysaa Moore, Ali Giffin, and Rileigh Sladics (7th, 8th, and 9th respectively).  Eric Pierce placed 5th in the Midget Boys category. March 12-14, 2014, Albuquerque, NM (NCAA Divsion I T&F Championship),  New York, NY. (New Balance Indoor High School Championship)

London Legion athletes Alysha Newman and Locky Butcher competed at US Indoor Championships this weekend.  Alysha jumped another University of Miami and Athletics Ontario record mark of 4.35m.  Alysha ends her 2013 indoor season ranked #1 in Canada.

Locky Butcher competed in 2 events at the New Balance National Indoor Championship for high school athletes, placing 14th in the Elite Hurdles category and 3rd in the Emerging Elite high jump category.  Locky's 60mh time of 8.08 leads all Canadian Junior men.

Five Athletes exceed US High School Elite standard at University of Akron Rubber Open

Lexi Aitken sets meet record in 60mh, 4X100 Boys Golden, 4X100 Girls Bronze

Five London Legion athletes set performances that exceeded US High School Elite standards including Kyle Hayes (400), Locky Butcher (60mh), Lexi Aitken (60mh), Tatiana Desender (400m) and Mackenzie Mayers (400m).  The girls team of Adriana Beukeboom, Ali Giffin, Rileigh Sladics, and Isabell Gibney won a Bronze medal in the 4X100 relay.  Locky Butcher, Cody Pauli, Davis Edward and Kyle Hayes won 4X100 Gold.  Thirteen athletes attended this Ohio State High School meet with over 2200 athletes in attendance.  Every club athlete achieved personal best performances.  Click here for the official University of Akron Rubber City Open results

Girls 60m hurdles is highlight of AO Youth & Senior Championship.


Feb 15-16, 2014, AO Youth & Senior Championship,Toronto, ON

Club athletes Lexi Aitken (Centre) and Kylie Paliani (far right), made the final of the highly competitive girls 60m hurdles.  Lexi won the race in 8.76 only .1 away from a new provincial record.  Kylie's time, as a first year youth, is now 10th in Canada.  Teammates, Alysaa Moore, Tatiana Desender and Madeline Aarts narrowly missed qualification for the finals.  For all results at this championship click here.  Videos including this race are up on our YouTube channel.

Club athletes Tess Verhoeven (60mh, HJ) and Tyrell Mairs (60mh) won Silver and Bronze Medals in the 60m hurdles at a Quebec vs Ontario Dual Meet in Toronto on Februay 15, 2014.  Tess won an additional High Jump silver medal at this meet on Ontario & Quebec's best midget athletes.

24 London Legion athletes set over 37 personal bests at an Athletics Ontario preparation meet at York University today.  Several newcomers making their first club competition debut included Ali GIffin (1.50m HJ), Alysaa Moore (60mh) and Isabelle Gibney in the 60m and 200m sprints.   Reaching top 10 national rankings, with their PB's, include Mackenzie Mayers, Kylie Paliani, Madeline Aarts and Tatiana Desender.  Up next, the Athletics Ontario Youth and Senior Championship.  Videos will follow on London Legion's YouTube Channel.  Well done ladies.

Club athletes Tess Verhoeven (60mh, HJ) and Tyrell Mairs (60mh) were named to Team Ontario.  Tess and Tyrell will compete against Team Quebec at a Dual Meet in Toronto on Februay 15, 2014.  Congratulations.

Hurricane Alysha roars into Miami

Sets new U of Miami, Kentucky U Meet, and Ontario U24 PV Records in first indoor meet

Alysha Newman jumped 4.31m in the Pole Vault event at the opening meet at the University of Kentucky, in her first meet as a University of Miami Hurricane. 

Alysha's opening performance set a University of Kentucky meet record, a University of Miami school record, and a new Ontario U24 record.  Alysha owns all Ontario pv  records from U16 to U24.   Later in the week, Alysha was named ACC Conference Female Performer of the Week.

In Albuquerque, NM, Nicole Setterington opened with a seaon opening PB of 8.67 and is ranked #1 in Canada's junior rankings.

Eleven London Legion high school athletes opened  the 2014 Indoor Season at the Ohio State high school invitational.  Winning gold medals were Kyle Hayes with a stunning 7.07 in the 60m sprints, Lexi Aitken winning the 60mh and Locky Butcher also winning the 60mh.  Both Lexi and Locky's performances placed them on the US High School Elite performers list and both now have #1 Canadian rankings in their event.  Finally our girls 4X200 team of Adriana Beukeboom, Kylie Paliani, Tess Verhoeven and Lena Robinson won gold and also a place on the U.S. High School Elite rankings.

Other notable performances includes a bronze medal by Davis Edward in the 200m, placing him #1 in Canada, Tess Verhoeven won silver in the girls high jump, and in the 60mh, Kylie Paliani placed 5th, Tatiana Desender 7th, and newcomer Madeline Aarts 10th.  In the 400m Tatiana and Mackenzie Mayers were 3rd and 4th respectively, and Mackenzie won the 800m with a silver medal performance.  Adriana Beukeboom was in the top 10 of the girls 60m sprints.  Most events had 72 competitors from across Ontario, Michigan and Canada.

Next up the Ontario Legion Championship on Saturday January 25 at York University. Entries are due Tuesday at 7 PM.  Club athletes between the ages of 12-17 are eligible to attend.

The University of Miami announced today that Alysha Newman, currently ranked #4 in the world as a Junior athlete in the Pole Vault, will be joining the University of Miam T&F Team.

Alysha set the Pan Am Junior record in winning the Gold Medal at the 2013 Pan Am Junior Championship held at Medillin, Columbia.

Lexi Aitken wins Athletics Canada Youth Athlete of the Year (Mrytle Cook Trophy)

Athletics Canada announced today that London Legion athlete Lexi Aitken (400mh) was awarded the 2013 Myrtel Cook award for Canadian Youth Track & Field Athlete of the Year. Lexi  set Canadian Indoor and Outdoor National records in 2013 and was ranked #4 and Alysha $5 in the IAAF World Rankings for 2013.

This is the second year in a row that London Legion athletes have won the Athletics Canada Youth Athlete of the Year.  In 2012, Nicole Setterington, ranked #2 in the World IAAF rankings won this award.  Over the last 2 years, London Legion placed 5 athletes and coaches as award finalists.

Athletics Canada announced today that London Legion Head Coach Sandy Cooper-Ryder has been named a finalist for Athletics Canada Coach of the Year. Athletes Lexi Aitken (400mh) and Alysha Newman (PV) were also named as finalists in the Youth and Junior divisions respectively.  Both Lexi and Alysha set Canadian Indoor and Outdoor National records in 2013.  Lexi is ranked #4 and Alysha $5 in the IAAF World Rankings for 2013.

London Legion XC athlete Charlotte Prouse, a first year Youth Athlete was chosen by Athletics Ontario to represent Ontario at the 2013 Canadian Junior & Senior XC Championship.

London Legion XC athletes won Silver, Bronze, a fourth place finish.  Congratulations to Charlotte Prouse (Silver), Devin Nicholson (Bronze) and Craig Klomp (fourth).  Mackenzie Mayers placed 10th in the individual.

The Youth Girls Team of Sarah Kwajfa, Charlotte Prouse, Mackenzie Mayers, Molly Miller and Nicole Hughson placed 4th in the Youth Girls Division.

London Legion entered 20 athletes and 3 very competitive teams, all placing in the top 10 in Ontario.  Congratulations coaches and athletes.

London Legion children join Veterans to honour Canada's war heroes

London Legion elementary program athletes, Alyssa Girardin and Kyle Koyanagi, joined  regional Veterans of Canada to honour Canada's fallen war heroes.

Most people do not know that Remembrance Day honours our Veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom, and for the freedom of others in the world.

Earlier this year Alyssa and Kyle represented Canada at the 2013 North American Hershey Elementary Track and Field Championships held in Hershey Pennsylvania.

This year, London Legion also remembers the passing of Rosella Piche, the wife of Royal Canadian Legion T&F Chair Norm Piche.  Rosella especially loved meeting our youngest T&F athletes like Alyssa & Kyle.  Rosella's funeral will be held later this week.  Please remember her in your prayers and be thankful to her contribution to our programs.

Charlotte Prouse wins OFSAA Gold, London Legion athletes earn 8 top 30 finishes

Charlotte Prouse won the Senior Girls 5.21Km Cross Country Championship held today in Sudbury Ontario.  Earlier this year, Charlotte placed 13th at the World Youth Champonship held in Donetsk, Ukraine.  For full results, go to our High School XC Results page.

Charlotte's London Legion teammates had 8 top 30 finishes, including 6 top 20 results.  Congratulations Charlotte and all athletes participating at OFSAA this year.


National NCAA Carding for Setterington & Newman

Elementary Athletes Dominate Ontario Minor Track XC Championship Results

London Legion Elementary athletes won 3 of 8 Ontario Team Gold Medal Championships at the 2013 Ontario Minor T&F Cross Country Championship held this year in Brantford, Ontario.  Gold Team Championships were earned by both Atom Girls and Boys Teams, and the Tyke Boys Teams.  Winning individual medals were Gold Medalists Kyle Koyanagi and Ethan Aarts, and Silver Medalist Ian Young.

A record 9 athletes have been nominated by Athletics Ontario as finalists for Ontario Athletes of the Year.  Congratulations to all our athletes below.

London Legion leaves 2013 with 3 athletes ranked in the top 20 in the World.  The first family to identify the top.  The first family to identify these athletes with their world ranking will receive a free London Legion T-Shirt.

The Elementary & High School Track & Sac program starts next week. A detailed schedule will be released tomorrow.  Collette's High School sprint practices start after Thankgiving weekend.  All Cross Country programs are in full swing.

9 Medals won at Canadian  Legion Championship


August 8-11, 2013, Langley, British Columbia

Six London Legion athletes won 9 medals at the 2013 Canadian Legion T&F Championship held in Langley, British Columbia.

Congratulations to

Kylie Paiiani (Silver 200mh), Cody Pauli (Silver 200mh), Tess Verhoeven (Bronze HJ), Locky Butcher (Silver 110mh), Muhumed Sirage (Silver 1500m), and Davis Edward (Silver 400m, and Bronze 300mh).

Kylie and Cody won relay gold medals representing Team Ontario.

Alysha Newman Golden at Pan Am Juniors

Alysha Newman won the Gold Medal at the 2013 Pan Am Juniors, held in Medillin, Columbia.

Alysha's 4.40m jump won the Gold and set a new Canadian Jr. Record, and a new Pan American Junior Record.  Alysha was awarded the female athlete of the Pan Am Games Award.  Alysha is now ranked #3 in the world as a Junior. 

 All competition stories from this summer will follow soon.  Two medals were won at the North American Hersheys Elementary Championship and 7 medals (5 Silver and 2 Bronze) were won at the Canadian Youth Championship early in August in Langley BC.

All cross country programs have now started for both Elementary & High School.  High School Track for high school and elementary resume in late September.

Nicole Setterington won the Silver Medal at the 2013 Pan Am Juniors, held in Medillin, Columbia.

Nicole's time of 13.57 was only .01 from first place.  This time sets a new U18 hurdle record previously owned by Olympian Priscilla Lopes-Schleip.

 All competition stories from this summer will follow soon.  Two medals were won at the North American Hersheys Elementary Championship and 7 medals (5 Silver and 2 Bronze) were won at the Canadian Youth Championship early in August in Langley BC.

Setterington & Newman chosen to Canadian Pan-Am JR Team

London Legion Junior athletes had successful results at the 2013 Canadian Junior Championship.

Nicole Setterington ran a 12.80 PB in the 100mh, to win the Gold Medal in the 100mh.  Nicole's time was only .02 from tying the Ontario Junior hurdle record set by Priscilla Lopes.  Alysha Newman won Silver in the Women's Pole Vault and placed 4th in the 100mh with another PB.  With these performances, Nicole and Alysha were selected to represent Canada at the 2013 Pan American Junior Track & Field Team.

Carolyn Adams placed 4th in the Women's High Jump in a very competitive national competition and Luke Dailleboust placed 6th and 7th in pole vault and long jump respectively.

London Legion elementary athletes Kyle Koyangi (Silver 800m), and Parker-Hord (100m Bronze) won medals at the 2013 Ontario Hershey Championship and Alyssa Girardin placed 6th.

To be selected to the Zone 1 team, our young athletes had to have better times in over 10 provincial and U.S. state championships including State Championships in Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Illionois and Indiana.   Well done athletes and coaches Bud Willis and Sally Chamberlain.

Alysha Newman breaks Canadian Junior PV Records

Alysha Newman broke the Canadian Junor Pole Vault record with a jump of 4.31m.  In so doing Alysha also broke two Ontario records, the U20 and U24 pole vault records.

 12 Medals won at Ontario Legion Championship

Twelve medals were won by  London Legion athletes  at the 2013 Ontario Legion T&F Championship to be held  July 5-6 in Sudbury, Ontario.

An unprecented four London Legion athletes have been selected by Athletics Canada to represent Canada at the 2013 World Youth T&F Championship, to be held in Donetsk, Ukraine from July 10-14, 2013.

Lexi Aitken (left) and Davis Edward (right), currently ranked #1 in Canada, will represent Canada in the 400mh.  Earlier this month, Lexi broke the Canadian Youth Record, and Davis smashed the 400m hurdle record in Ontario.



Also OFSAA record breaker Charlotte Prouse (left) will represent our country in the 3000m and Locky Butcher will wear our national uniform in the 110m hurdles.  Locky barely missed being chosen in two events, including the high jump with a 2.0m performance in June.

Ten chosen to RCL District A Team for Legion Ontario Championship

Ten London Legion athletes were selected by RCL District A Track & Field Committee to compete at the 2013 Ontario Legion T&F Championship to be held this July 5-6 in Sudbury, Ontario.

Record results for club athletes during busy weekend of Track & Field across Canada


June 21-24, Moncton NB, Chatham ON, Toronto, ON

It was a busy weekend of track and field for London Legion athletes and coaches.  At the Canadian Seniors, London Legion junior aged athletes Alysha Newman and Nicole Setterington competed as a senior for the first time.  Alysha won the Bronze Medal in the Pole Vault and Nicole Setterington placed 5th in the competitive 100m women's hurdles event.

In Chatham at the RCL District A qualifier London Legion won 28 medals, our highest team total ever with the distribution being 17 Gold, 8 Silver and 3 Bronze Medals.  Two meet records were set by Cody Pauli (300m), and Locky Butcher (110mh).

At the Ontario Hershey Championship, our elementary aged athletes, 3 athletes won Gold and 3 athletes won Silver Medals in this highly competitve elementary championship.

Well done athletes and coaches.





 Club athletes win 18 medals at 2013 OFSAA T&F Championship


 10 Gold, 5 Silver, 3 Bronze, 3 OFSAA Records, 2 Athletics Ontario, and 1 Canadian Youth Record set



June 6-8, 2013 Oshawa, Ontario

London Legion athletes won a record 19 medals at the 2012 OFSAA T&F Championship held this year in Oshawa and set 3 OFSAA Records, 2 Athletics Ontario Records and 1 Canadian Junior Record.

Athletes, competing with their school programs, won 10 Gold medals, 4 Silver and 3 Bronze medals were earned including 3 OFSAA records set by Davis Edward (300mh) and Charlotte Prouse (1500m, 3000m).  Lexi Aitken, running an age category up won 2 Silver Medals in the 100mh and 400mh.  In the 400mh, Lexi's time of 58.89 broke the Ontario U17, and U18 record and established a new Canadian Youth Record.

Winning Gold medals were Davis Edwards  (2 Gold, 80mh, 300mh), Muhumed Sirage (2 Gold, 1500m, 3000m), Kylie Paliani (100mh, 300mh), Charlotte Prouse (3000m), Cody Pauli (300mh),  Locky Butcher (HJ) and Nicole Setterington (100mh).   A list of all OFSAA Finalists can be viewed here.

Silver Medalists included Charlotte Prouse (1500m), Lexi Aitken running age up as a senior (110mh, 400mh), Carolyn Adams (HJ), and Luke Daillebout (LJ).  Bronze Medalists included Tatiania Desender (300mh), Codi Pauli (400m) and Sarah Spottiswood (1500m SC).

The start of the  summer season begins this week, with Championships for Ontario Bantam, Midgets and Youth in August and for Juniors and Seniors in July.  Our full practice schedule resumes this week in all programs. 




Club Athletes generate record 59 Top 3 finishes at WOSSAA 


Athletes Set 7 WOSSAA, 12 TRVA Records

London Legion athletes competing for their high school's in the WOSSAA conference won a record 59 top 3 finishes and set 7 WOSSAA and 12 TVRA records over the last two weeks of high school track and field competition.

Best wishes to all athletes attending OFSAA West at Jacob Hespler High School in Cambridge next Friday and Saturday. 

After OFSSAA selected video performances of this years high school season will be posted to the London Legion YouTube channel.



Alysha Newman ties Canadian Junior PV Record


Wins University of Tennessee Sea Ray Invitational jumping 4.20m

Alysha Newman won the Pole Vault Event at the 2013 University of Tennessee Searay Relays.  Alysha's jump of 4.20m ties the existing Canadian Junior Record.

Alysha also ran a PB 14.4s 100m hurdle race.






London Legion minors win 13 medals for 5th place in Ontario

Congratulations to all of London Legion elementary athletes and their coaches Sally Chamberlain, Bud Willis and Val Keelly for a tremendous effort at the 2013 Ontario Minor Track & Field Indoor Championships held at York University.

Club athletes earned a total of 13 Ontario Championship medals including Nina Anderson (Bronze), Emily Gilhuly (Silver, Gold), Alyssa Girardin (Silver, Gold), Victoria Bouck (Bronze), Holly Holden (Gold), Camryn Steckel (Gold), Emily Rundle (Silver), Kyle Koyanagi (Gold, Silver), Kayden Oliver (Silver) and Caelen Holden (Gold).

London Legion's Elementary endurance programs take a break until April 29, and will start our outdoor season at STA High School.  London Legions Elementary Track/SAC (Grade 5 and up) continues at the Agriplex until May 1 and will shift to TD Waterhouse weather permitting.    



London Legion ends 2013 4th ranked club in Ontario after relay Championships

After the completion of all individual and relay Ontario championships for Bantam, Midget, Youth, Junior and Senior, London Legion currently is ranked #4 ranked club in Ontario.     This indoor season club athletes also set 7 new Ontario records. 

London Legion placed #2 Overall in the Midget category, #3 in the Youth grouping, #4 in the Juniors, and #5 in the Bantams.

 On April 6, 2012, London Legion's elementary students from Grade 1 - Grade 8 will be competing for our 3rd straight Ontario Minor Track & Field Championship.  All entries must be provided to Sally by next Friday.

After the completion of all individual Ontario championships for Bantam, Midget, Youth, Junior and Senior, London Legion currently is ranked #3 ranked club in Ontario.  The Ontario Relay Championship is this weekend, and will determine final club rankings.  This indoor season club athletes also set 7 new Ontario records.

London Legion is sending a record 21 teams to this upcoming Ontario Championship meet.  Good luck to all teams.

Alysha Newman places 12th in NCAA Final

Canadian Junior Pole Vault record holder performance is best by Canadian women freshman

Alysha Newman placed 12th in the NCAA Track & Field Championship in the Pole Vault held this  weekend  in Fayetteville, AK with a jump of 4.10m.

Alysha, a true freshman attending Eastern Michigan University, recently broke the Canadian Junior Record with a stunning 4.23m jump winning the Mid American Conference Championship.

 Alyha's performance was the best performance by a Canadian freshman women's athlete attending this year's Championship. 




 Billotta sets London Legion's 116 Ontario Record



March 2-3, 2013, Bantam, Midget Youth Championship, York University, Toronto ON

London Legion athlete Michael Billotta set London Legion's 116th Ontario record winning the 1200m Bantam Boys race with a new Ontario record time of 1:59.98. Michael pictured is pictured at left with his coach Sally Chamberlain.

At the Bantam, Midget and Junior Championship this weekend, several personal best were earned.  Winning two gold medals was Tess Verhoeven (60m hurdles and high jump),Nicole Setterington won gold in the 60m hurdles and Koby Oliver won Gold in the Bantam boys Long Jump.  Silver medalists included Lexi Aitken, in the Junior 60m hurdles, and Tyrell Mairs Midget Boys Long Jump.  Bronze Medalists included Luke Dailleboust in the Junior Mens 60m hurdles and Koby Oliver in the 150m sprints.



Aitken breaks 10 year old hurdle record 8.72



February 16-17, 2013, York University, Toronto ON

London Legion athlete Lexi Aitken broke the Ontario 60m hurdle hurdle record set in 2003 by Olympian Nikita Holder in 2003.  Lexi's time was an amazing 8.72. Lexi also won silver in the Youth Girls high jump.  This is the 3rd Ontario record set by Lexi this indoor season.

Nine other London Legion athletes won medals including Davis Edward (Gold 60mh, Bronze 200), Locky Butcher (Silver HJ - PB  1.93m), Muhumad Sirage (Silver 1500m),   and Craig Klomp (Bronze 800).  Nicole Setterington, competing as a Senior won a bronze medal in the 60mh.



Club Athletes help Team Ontario in win over Team Quebec in Midget & Junior Dual Meet

London Legion athetes Carolyn Adams, Nicole Setterington, Tess Verhoeven and Tyrell Mairs won 4 hurdle medals and 2 high jump medals that helped power Team Ontario over Team Quebec at the 2013 Ontario & Quebec Midget and Junior Meet. 

London Legion athletes won 3 of 4 hurdle championship gold medals and 1 silver medal, in this meet that matched the best Midget and Junior athletes in Ontario and Quebec.


Fourteen Champions crowned at Ontario Legion Indoor Championship
