At this year's Legion National Championhip held in Langley BC, Charlotte Prouse won the 3000m National Championship in a golden time of 9:51.77. Charlotte also won the bronze medal in the 1500m. Charlotte also won a silver medal in the 4X400m relay.
Tess Verhoeven won the Silver medal in the girls U16 80m hurdles running a blistering 11.66. On Sunday, Tess jumped 1.61m to win the bronze medal in the high jump. Tess also was a member of Team Ontario in the record breaking sprint medley team.
Muhumed Sirage placed 4th in 3000m and 10th in the 1500m and won a silver medal as part of Team Ontario's 4X400m team. Click here for full results

Clarissa Sladek wins Hershey North American Championship Silver Medal

Club athlete Clarissa Sladek won the Silver Medal in the girls 11-12 800m final in a quick 2:27.19.

June 28, 2014, Moncton, NB, & July 5, St. Therese, QC.London Legion athletes Nicole Setterington won the Silver Medal at the 2014 Canadian Junior Championship and Alysha Newman won Bronze at the Canadian Senior T&F Championship held in Moncton and St. Therese Quebec. Nicole's and Alysha's outstanding performances qualified them to represent Canada at major international games. Nicole competes tomorrow at the World Junior T&F Championship in Oregon in the 100m hurdles. Alysha competes at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow on July 29. Club athlete Clarissa Sladek was named to the Hershey Zone 1 Team for the 800m event at the 2014 North American Hershey Elementary T&F Championship. Coach Bud Willis was asked to be a coach at this international event for children.
Clarissa won the Ontario Hershey Championship and her time was the best of Ontario and 9 US States. Congratulations to Clarissa and Coach Willis.

Club Athletes earn 13 Medals at OFSAA Track & Field 2014
June 5-7, 2014, Mississauga, ON
Club athletes earned a near record 13 medals, and dozens of top 8 finishes at the 2014 OFSAA Track & Field Championships, held in Mississauga, Ontario.
Tess Verhoeven led all performers with 2 Gold Medals in the 80mh and PV followed by double medalist Tyrell Mairs with a Gold in the 100mh and Silver in the 300mh. Both of Tyrell's performances were less that .10 sec from a new OFSAA Record.
Charlotte Prouse was another double medalist in the 1500m (Bronze) and 3000m (Silver). Lexi Aiken won silver in the 400mh, Tatiana Desender, silver in the 300mh.
Bronze Medalists included Shay Williams (100m), Kaylin Hall (80mh), Kylie Paliani, (300mh), Locky Butcher (110mh) and Cody Pauli (300mh)
Alysha Newman chosen to represent Canada at 2014 Commonwealth Games

Athletics Canada announced today that Alysha Newman was selected to represent Canada at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
Alysha, 19, is one of the youngest competitors representing Canada and was chosen, despite narrowly missing the Senior standard of 4.55m, because Alysha has the second best jump of 4.41m in the Commonwealth this year.
Last week, Alysha qualified for the 2014 NCAA Outdoor Championship. Alysha is currently ranked #4 in the NCAA and #17 in the IAAF World rankings.
23 Club Athletes in 37 events advance to OFSAA

A record 23 club athletes, participating on their high school teams, advanced to the OFSAA Championship to be held this weekend in Mississauga. Club athletes qualified in 37 events. London Legion athletes won 5 of 6 District Championship titles for scoring the most points in each division. Kaylin Hall and Lexi Aitken won their age section of Midget and Senior girls respectively. Lexi Aitken selected to represent Canada at 2014 Youth Olympic Games

Lexi Aiken was selected today to represent Canada at the 2014 Youth Olympic Games, to be held in Nanjing, China in August of this year. Lexi won the 100mh and 400mh IAAF Americas trial, held in Mirarmar, Florida in April. Lexi's races are now up on our club YouTube Channel.
Club athletes break 10 regional records in first round of OFSAA Track & Field

Club athletes, competing for their high school teams, broke 10 Huron-Perth, and TVRA regional track & field records. Even in horrible windy and rainy conditions, records fell at unprecedented rates. Congratulations to all participants on great performances in the first round of OFSAA high school track and field competition.
Lexi Aiken, selected to represent Canada, won 2 gold medals at the 2014 Youth Olympic Trials, held in Mirarmar, Florida. Lexi's time in the 100mh was 13.65 and she ran a season opener 1:00.92 in the 400mh. Two other America's trials will be held in the Caribeen and South America that will determine athletes chosen from the Americas for the 2014 Youth Olympics. London Legion sent 11 athletes, most of any club in Ontario, to the 2014 Athletics Ontario Indoor Combined Events T&F Championship. Five medals were won by club athletes, including 1 record breaking peformances and four combined events scores within striking distance of new Ontario records. Congratulations to Tyrell Mairs (2305 pts), Tess Verhoeven (2707 new Record), Liam Mather, Locky Butcher (3334 pts), and Tatiana Desender Bronze (2887) in her first ever combined events meet. Newcomers to the combined events included great performances by Madelyn Aarts 4th, Kylie Paliani 5th, and Alysaa Moore, Ali Giffin, and Rileigh Sladics (7th, 8th, and 9th respectively). London Legion athletes Alysha Newman and Locky Butcher competed at US Indoor Championships this weekend. Alysha jumped another University of Miami and Athletics Ontario record mark of 4.35m. Alysha ends her 2013 indoor season ranked #1 in Canada.
Locky Butcher competed in 2 events at the New Balance National Indoor Championship for high school athletes, placing 14th in the Elite Hurdles category and 3rd in the Emerging Elite high jump category. Locky's 60mh time of 8.08 leads all Canadian Junior men.

Five London Legion athletes set performances that exceeded US High School Elite standards including Kyle Hayes (400), Locky Butcher (60mh), Lexi Aitken (60mh), Tatiana Desender (400m) and Mackenzie Mayers (400m). The girls team of Adriana Beukeboom, Ali Giffin, Rileigh Sladics, and Isabell Gibney won a Bronze medal in the 4X100 relay. Locky Butcher, Cody Pauli, Davis Edward and Kyle Hayes won 4X100 Gold. Thirteen athletes attended this Ohio State High School meet with over 2200 athletes in attendance. Every club athlete achieved personal best performances. Hurricane Alysha roars into Miami
Sets new U of Miami, Kentucky U Meet, and Ontario U24 PV Records in first indoor meet

Alysha Newman jumped 4.31m in the Pole Vault event at the opening meet at the University of Kentucky, in her first meet as a University of Miami Hurricane.
Alysha's opening performance set a University of Kentucky meet record, a University of Miami school record, and a new Ontario U24 record. Alysha owns all Ontario pv records from U16 to U24. Later in the week, Alysha was named ACC Conference Female Performer of the Week.
In Albuquerque, NM, Nicole Setterington opened with a seaon opening PB of 8.67 and is ranked #1 in Canada's junior rankings.

Team opens indoor season at Ohio State H.S. Invitational with 3 U.S. Elite performances
Hayes earns sprint Gold, Aiken & Butcher and 4X200 team named to US Elite status

Eleven London Legion high school athletes opened the 2014 Indoor Season at the Ohio State high school invitational. Winning gold medals were Kyle Hayes with a stunning 7.07 in the 60m sprints, Lexi Aitken winning the 60mh and Locky Butcher also winning the 60mh. Both Lexi and Locky's performances placed them on the US High School Elite performers list and both now have #1 Canadian rankings in their event. Finally our girls 4X200 team of Adriana Beukeboom, Kylie Paliani, Tess Verhoeven and Lena Robinson won gold and also a place on the U.S. High School Elite rankings.
Other notable performances includes a bronze medal by Davis Edward in the 200m, placing him #1 in Canada, Tess Verhoeven won silver in the girls high jump, and in the 60mh, Kylie Paliani placed 5th, Tatiana Desender 7th, and newcomer Madeline Aarts 10th. In the 400m Tatiana and Mackenzie Mayers were 3rd and 4th respectively, and Mackenzie won the 800m with a silver medal performance. Adriana Beukeboom was in the top 10 of the girls 60m sprints. Most events had 72 competitors from across Ontario, Michigan and Canada.
Next up the Ontario Legion Championship on Saturday January 25 at York University. Entries are due Tuesday at 7 PM. Club athletes between the ages of 12-17 are eligible to attend.

The University of Miami announced today that Alysha Newman, currently ranked #4 in the world as a Junior athlete in the Pole Vault, will be joining the University of Miam T&F Team.
Alysha set the Pan Am Junior record in winning the Gold Medal at the 2013 Pan Am Junior Championship held at Medillin, Columbia.

Athletics Canada announced today that London Legion athlete Lexi Aitken (400mh) was awarded the 2013 Myrtel Cook award for Canadian Youth Track & Field Athlete of the Year. Lexi set Canadian Indoor and Outdoor National records in 2013 and was ranked #4 and Alysha $5 in the IAAF World Rankings for 2013.
This is the second year in a row that London Legion athletes have won the Athletics Canada Youth Athlete of the Year. In 2012, Nicole Setterington, ranked #2 in the World IAAF rankings won this award. Over the last 2 years, London Legion placed 5 athletes and coaches as award finalists.
