Wins University of Tennessee Sea Ray Invitational jumping 4.20m

Alysha Newman won the Pole Vault Event at the 2013 University of Tennessee Searay Relays. Alysha's jump of 4.20m ties the existing Canadian Junior Record.
Alysha also ran a PB 14.4s 100m hurdle race.
London Legion minors win 13 medals for 5th place in Ontario

Congratulations to all of London Legion elementary athletes and their coaches Sally Chamberlain, Bud Willis and Val Keelly for a tremendous effort at the 2013 Ontario Minor Track & Field Indoor Championships held at York University.
Club athletes earned a total of 13 Ontario Championship medals including Nina Anderson (Bronze), Emily Gilhuly (Silver, Gold), Alyssa Girardin (Silver, Gold), Victoria Bouck (Bronze), Holly Holden (Gold), Camryn Steckel (Gold), Emily Rundle (Silver), Kyle Koyanagi (Gold, Silver), Kayden Oliver (Silver) and Caelen Holden (Gold).
London Legion's Elementary endurance programs take a break until April 29, and will start our outdoor season at STA High School. London Legions Elementary Track/SAC (Grade 5 and up) continues at the Agriplex until May 1 and will shift to TD Waterhouse weather permitting.
London Legion ends 2013 4th ranked club in Ontario after relay Championships

After the completion of all individual and relay Ontario championships for Bantam, Midget, Youth, Junior and Senior, London Legion currently is ranked #4 ranked club in Ontario. This indoor season club athletes also set 7 new Ontario records.
London Legion placed #2 Overall in the Midget category, #3 in the Youth grouping, #4 in the Juniors, and #5 in the Bantams.
On April 6, 2012, London Legion's elementary students from Grade 1 - Grade 8 will be competing for our 3rd straight Ontario Minor Track & Field Championship. All entries must be provided to Sally by next Friday.
London Legion 3rd ranked club in Ontario after individual Championships

After the completion of all individual Ontario championships for Bantam, Midget, Youth, Junior and Senior, London Legion currently is ranked #3 ranked club in Ontario. The Ontario Relay Championship is this weekend, and will determine final club rankings. This indoor season club athletes also set 7 new Ontario records.
London Legion is sending a record 21 teams to this upcoming Ontario Championship meet. Good luck to all teams.
On April 6, 2012, London Legion's elementary students from Grade 1 - Grade 8 will be competing for our 3rd straight Ontario Minor Track & Field Championship. All entries must be provided to Sally by next Friday.
Alysha Newman places 12th in NCAA Final
Canadian Junior Pole Vault record holder performance is best by Canadian women freshman

Alysha Newman placed 12th in the NCAA Track & Field Championship in the Pole Vault held this weekend in Fayetteville, AK with a jump of 4.10m.
Alysha, a true freshman attending Eastern Michigan University, recently broke the Canadian Junior Record with a stunning 4.23m jump winning the Mid American Conference Championship.
Alyha's performance was the best performance by a Canadian freshman women's athlete attending this year's Championship.
Billotta sets London Legion's 116 Ontario Record

London Legion athlete Michael Billotta set London Legion's 116th Ontario record winning the 1200m Bantam Boys race with a new Ontario record time of 1:59.98. Michael pictured is pictured at left with his coach Sally Chamberlain.
At the Bantam, Midget and Junior Championship this weekend, several personal best were earned. Winning two gold medals was Tess Verhoeven (60m hurdles and high jump),Nicole Setterington won gold in the 60m hurdles and Koby Oliver won Gold in the Bantam boys Long Jump. Silver medalists included Lexi Aitken, in the Junior 60m hurdles, and Tyrell Mairs Midget Boys Long Jump. Bronze Medalists included Luke Dailleboust in the Junior Mens 60m hurdles and Koby Oliver in the 150m sprints.
Aitken breaks 10 year old hurdle record 8.72

London Legion athlete Lexi Aitken broke the Ontario 60m hurdle hurdle record set in 2003 by Olympian Nikita Holder in 2003. Lexi's time was an amazing 8.72. Lexi also won silver in the Youth Girls high jump. This is the 3rd Ontario record set by Lexi this indoor season.
Nine other London Legion athletes won medals including Davis Edward (Gold 60mh, Bronze 200), Locky Butcher (Silver HJ - PB 1.93m), Muhumad Sirage (Silver 1500m), and Craig Klomp (Bronze 800). Nicole Setterington, competing as a Senior won a bronze medal in the 60mh.
Club Athletes help Team Ontario in win over Team Quebec in Midget & Junior Dual Meet

London Legion athetes Carolyn Adams, Nicole Setterington, Tess Verhoeven and Tyrell Mairs won 4 hurdle medals and 2 high jump medals that helped power Team Ontario over Team Quebec at the 2013 Ontario & Quebec Midget and Junior Meet.
London Legion athletes won 3 of 4 hurdle championship gold medals and 1 silver medal, in this meet that matched the best Midget and Junior athletes in Ontario and Quebec.
Fourteen Champions crowned at Ontario Legion Indoor Championship

Butcher & Edward represent Team Ontario at Provincial Tri-Meet

London Legion athletes Davis Edward and Locky Butcher were chosen to represent Team Ontario at a Provincial Tri-Meet managed by Quebecoise Athletisme this weekend.
Locky is currently ranked #1 in the 60m hurdles and #4 in the high jump in Canada. Davis is ranked #4 in the hurdles and #2 in the 200m in our nation early in the 2013 Athletics Canada rankings.
Athletes earn 3 Gold Medals and break 5 Ontario Records

Lexi Aitken, Tess Verhoeven and Tyrell Mairs won Athletics Ontario Combined Events Championship Gold Medals. Incredibly each championship winning performance by our athletes set new Ontario Combined Events records.
Lexi Aitken's combined event score broke both the U17 and U18 Ontario Combined Events records. Tess Verhoeven broke the U15 Ontario Combined Events record and set a new Ontario U15 60m hurdle record during the event. Tyrell Mairs also broke the Midget Boys U15 Combined Events record.

Nicole Setterington wins Athletics Canada Youth Athlete of the Year
Wins Myrtle Cook Trophy, Ranked #2 in world in 100m hurdles

Athletics Canada announced the 2012 Athlete of the Year winners today. London Legion's Nicole Setterington won the 2012 Youth Athlete of the Year in track and field. Here is an excerpt from the Athletics Canada press release. Congratulations Nicole!
Nicole Setterington of London, Ont., is the recipient of the Myrtle Cook Trophy for the outstanding youth athlete of the year. Nicole won gold with a new Canadian youth record in the 100-metre hurdles at the Canadian Legion Championship. Her time of 13.38 seconds ranks her second in the world in the youth category; she was also given the opportunity to represent Canada at the IAAF World Junior Championship.

London Legion is proud to announce our own YouTube channel. After months in development and several prototypes, we are now ready to support this service for athletes and families. All club YouTube videos are fully integrated into our new London Legion smartphone applications to be viewed on smartphones over WiFi or 3G/4G wireless networks.
Over the last year we have developed over 1TB of video of club athletes at Athletics Ontario, Athletics Canada and high school meets including TVRA, WOSSAA, OFSAA West and OFSAA.

Welcome Teacher/Coach Amanda Leigh Smith
Sarnia native is a graduate of Wilfrid Laurier University

London Legion welcomes Sarnia native and Wilfrid Laurier Kinesiology graduate to London Legion's coaching staff. Amanda is currently attending Althouse College, at Western University. Amanda plans to do post graduate work in Occupational Therapy next year. Her career goals are to teach physically challenged children.
Amanda will be working with Sally and Bud on our fastest growing children's program, Elementary Endurance for children for Grades 3-8. Amanda was a competitive athlete in different events including track, cross country, basketball and soccer.

This Saturday's programs will move to Sunday due to an unsheduled Western Fair event. Track Time for Children will move to 11 AM on Sunday and High Performance Track will start at 12 on Sunday. These programs return to our usual schedule of 9:30 for Track Time for Children and 11 for High Performance on Saturday December 8.
It was pure fun at the 2012-2013 start of Fundamentals of Track & Field for Children on Saturday at 9:30. London Legion uses the course material from Athletics Canada's Run, Jump & Throw to provide the fundamentals of Athletics for children. The programs runs every Saturday, starting at 9:30, every week that the Agriplex is available. Please review our schedules often.
Our goals for this program are for children to have fun, learn, improve fitness and strive for personal bests. Pictures and videos will be available in our Track Time page.

Sirage, Holden and Prouse win Gold, Silver & Bronze at Ontario XC Championship

London Legion athletes Muhumed Sirage, Caelen Holden and Charlotte Prouse ended the 2012 Athletics Ontario Championship season winning Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals respectively.
London Legion team results included a 4th place finish (Junior Women), two 8th place results (Youth Boys, and Midget Boys) and a 10th place (Midget Girls).

London Legion athletes Lexi Aiken and Davis Edward were chosen to represent the Youth of Canada at the 2012 London Remembrance Day ceremony at the Victoria Park Cenotaph. At left, Lexi and Davis are shown with Ontario Cabinet Minister and London West MPP Chris Bentley.
Earlier in the week, Lexi and Davis were interviewed by Joe Duscene of CJBK Radio with WWII Veteran Arthur (Art) Stenning pictured at left (centre). Art spoke about the work the Veterans of Canada do on behalf of Canada's Youth, and Lexi and Davis spoke about Legion sports programs and the honor of representing the Youth of Canada on Remembrance Day.

Prouse and Sirage win OFSAA XC Gold
November 3, 2012 OFSAA XC Championship, Heart Lake, Brampton, ON
London Legion athletes Charlotte Prouse and Muhumed Sirage, competing with their high school programs, won OFSAA XC Gold Medals. This is the second year in a row that Charlotte and Muhumed have won the OFSAA XC Championship. Jackson Mayers placed 8th and Tatiana Desender had a top 25 finish. Congratulations to all athletes and teams for an incredible high school XC season. Up next, the Athletics Ontario XC Championship in Kingston on Nov 11.

Two of London Legion track and field youngest athletes participated in the 2012 Lambeth Legion Remembrance Week opening ceremonies. Andrew and Amanda Lynch layed a wreath at the Lambeth Cenotaph along with representatives from the Canadian and Ontario Government. Several representatives of the City of London, and Lambeth community groups participated in today's events as well.
Today marked the start of London veterans Remembrance Week. This event asks all of us the question.... How will you remember?
Terrible weather brings out best in elementary athletes at Ontario MTA XC Championship
London Legion wins 2 of 8 divisions, place 2nd and 3rd in Tyke Boys and Senior Girls

Constant rain and very cool weather conditions did not deter Ontario Minor Track athletes at this year's Ontario MTA XC Championship. Despite tough conditions, the elementary xc runners had wonderful performances.
London Legion sucessfully held the 2012 Ontario Minor Track & Field Association (MTA) Cross Country Championship at Fanshawe Lake. Over 350 athletes attended this years meet. Congratulations to Meet Convenor Bud Willis and an incredible volunteer team for managing a wonderful meet for the children of Ontario.
London Legion athletes performed exceptionally well. London Legion won two divisions Atom Boys and Tyke Girls. We also placed 2nd in Tyke Boys, and 3rd in Senior Girls. Athletes winning individual medals included Gold Medalist MacKenzie Bilotta, Silver Medalist Kyle Koyanagi, and Bronze Medalists Michael Bilotta and Camryn Steckel.

Winning Athlete of the Year honours were Lexi Aitken (seond from left), Tyrell Mairs (2 Awards 4th from left), Davis Edward (2nd from right), and Nicole Setterington (far right). Alysha Newman won Athlete of the Year as well but is attending university in Michigan. Earning nominations as a Top 3 athlete in their expanded event group included Mackenzie Mayers (far left), Carolyn Adams (3rd from left), Julia Simpson, Luke Dailleboust and Camryn Steckel (not pictured). Preparation begins for Ontario Minor Track XC Championship in London on October 27

London Legion's elementary endurance program kicked into high gear this week, in preparation for the elementary xc season and for the Ontario Minor T&F XC Championship to be run by London Legion at Fanshawe Park on October 27, 2012.
New members are always welcome to join in the fun.
Nicole Setterington breaks 100m Hurdle Canadian Youth Record (13.38)
Lexi Aitken, Davis Edward, Mackenzie Mayers set new Ontario and National Meet Records
August 17-19, 2012, Charlottetown, PEI
Nicole Setterington stunned a crowded University of PEI stadium by winning the Youth Girls 100m hurdle final in 13.38s, establishing a new Canadian Record. Nicole's time also set a meet record and smashed the previous Ontario record of 13.62. Nicole is now ranked #2 in the world in the IAAF Youth 100mh women rankings. Teammate Carolyn Adams placed 5th in the final and 6th overall.
Lexi Aitken won 5 Canadian Youth Championship medals including 4 Gold medals and 1 Bronze winning the Midget Girls 200m hurdles in a meet record 27.20. Lexi won an individual bronze medal in the 100m hurdles and she won Gold medals as part of Team Ontario by winning the 4X100, sprint medlay relay and open 4X400 women's relay with performances that set Canadian Championship records.
Davis Edward also won 4 Gold Medals winning the 100m hurdles and 200m hurdles where he set a new Canadian Championship record. Davis also help set Canadian Championship records as part of Team Ontario in the 4X100 and sprint medlay relays. Davis was chosen by the Ontario Team as the top male athlete of the championship and Davis won the Jack Stenhouse Award as top athlete of the 2012 Canadian Legion Championship.
Mackenzie Mayers won Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals in the sprint medlay, 800m, and 1200m events setting a new Canadian Championship record as part of Team Ontario in the relay event.
Other notable performances included Luke Dailleboust placing 5th in the Octathlon and Carolyn Adams placing 6th in the high jump. Including this weekend's record total, London Legion athletes have sent an amazing 15 Canadian and 111 Ontario records.
London Legion wins Ontario Bantam Championship

August 4-5, 2012, St Catharines, ON
London Legion won our 6th Ontario Bantam Championship and scored very highly in the Midget and Youth Ontario Championship held this weekend in St. Catharines.
London Legion and our partner Niagara Olympic co-hosted this championship,which was one of the largest meets ever held for these age categories. Thank you Niagara Olympic and Head Coach Sharon Stewart for a great collaborative effort. Thanks to the many club volunteers and coaches who also made wonderful contributions of time and talent.
This weekend had many incredible performances by our Bantams including Tyrell Mairs who broke 3 Ontario records in the 80m, 80m hurdles and 200m hurdles. Tyrell's performances brings our club Ontario record count to 109. Camryn Steckel won Gold 800m and Silver 1200m. Eric Pierce won 2 bronze medals, Julia Simpson a silver medal (80mh)and underage Bantam Liam Mather also participated towards our winning Championship score.
In the Midget and Youth category, Davis Edward won 2 Ontario Championship Gold Medals in the 100mh and 200mh, and Lexi Aitken won a Gold Medal in the 80mh. Mackenzie Mayers won Silver and Gold in the 800m and 1200m respectively. Nicole Setterington won the Youth girls 100mh. Locky Butcher (Bronze 110mh) and Luke Dailleboust also contributed to the scoring.
Up next is the Canadian Midget and Youth Championship in Charlottetown. A total of 5 London Legion athletes will be representing Ontario at this National Meet.
This weekend concludes our Elementary Track Program for the summer. It resumes in late September. Our Elementary Endurance program starts Aug 13 at 5 PM at Springbank Park (North St) and our High Performance Endurance Program starts on August 16

London Legion athletes and World Junior Semi-Finalists Alysha Newman (PV) and Nicole Setterington (100mh) won Gold and Silver Medals respectively at the 2012 Canadian Junior Track & Field Championships held on July 27-30 in Winnipeg.
Christine MacNeill placed 4th in the very competitive women's 100m hurdle championship event and Carolyn Adams was 5th in the high jump. Congratulations to all club athletes on an amazing 2012 competitive season.

Davis Edward and Lexi Aitken broke 5 Ontario Records this weekend at the Ontario Legion Track and Field Championship held in Oshawa Ontario. This meet is a qualification meet for selection to Team Ontario for the upcoming Canadian Legion Youth and Midget Champioship. Lexi and Davis won 3 gold medals each and teammate Mackenzie Mayers won 2 gold medals in the 800m and 1200m middle distance events.

Newman and Setterington chosen to represent Canada at World Junior's
July 1 , 2012 Ottawa, Ontario
Athletics Canada announced today that Alysha Newman (Pole Vault) and Nicole Setterington (100mh) will represent Canada at the 2012 World Junior Championship to be held July 12-15 in Barcelona, Spain.
As this is a partially funded trip for Junior athletes, we are asking club members and their families for volunteer donations to help send these remarkable athletes to the World Junior Championship.
Cheques can be make to London Legion T&F - c/o World Junior Fund. Please send these cheques to 5 Beech Drive, London Ontario, N6P 1E1. A PayPal account will be available to allow on-line contributions. These gifts can be given at club practices.

At the Ontario Legion District A Ontario Qualification Meet held this weekend in Chatham, Ontario, club athletes won a record 32 medals including 18 Gold, 8 Silver and 6 Bronze in sprints, hurdles, jumps and middle distance events. In addition to Lexi, Mackenzie Mayers (1200m), Corina Simpson (1200m), Eric Pierce (TJ), Carolyn Adams (100mh), and Davis Edward who set two records (100mh, 200mh).
In addition to medal wins, many personal best performances were set by all club athletes. Congratulations to all.

Club athletes competing for London Legion won 6 Athletics Ontario Combined Events Championship held this weekend in Windsor. Congratulations to Gold Medalists Tyrell Mairs, Lexi Aitken and Locky Butcher. Other medalists included Eric Pierce Silver, and Bronze Medalists Liam Mather and Julia Simpson. Tyrell Mairs set a new record in a new Bantam Tetrathlon event andLexi Aitken broke the existing midget girls pentathlon record in winning her gold medal. Lexi has set our clubs 100th Ontario record in 8 years.
Club athletes win 14 medals at 2012 OFSAA T&F Championship
11 Gold, 1 Silver, 2 Bronze, 3 OFSAA Records Set
June 7-9, 2012 Brockville, Ontario
London Legion athletes won a record 14 medals at the 2012 OFSAA T&F Championship held this year in beautiful Brockville Ontario. A stunning 11 Gold medals, 1 Silver and 2 Bronze medals were earned and 3 OFSAA records were set by Lexi Aitken (300mh), Alysha Newman (PV) and Muhumed Sirage (3000m). These records are the 96th, 97th, and 98th Ontario records set by London Legion athletes.
Winning Gold medals were Lexi Aitken (2 Gold, 80mh, 300mh), Davis Edward (2 Gold 100mh, 300mh), Muhumed Sirage (2 Gold, 1500m, 3000m), Charlotte Prouse (2 Gold 1500m, 3000m), Carolyn Adams (HJ), Alysha Newman (PV), and Nicole Setterington (100mh). Christine MacNeill won a Silver Medal in the 100mh, and Mackenzie Mayers (800m) and Lexi Aitken (HJ) won Bronze Medals. A list of all OFSAA Finalists can be viewed here.
The start of the summer season begins this week, with Championships for Ontario Bantam, Midgets and Youth in August and for Juniors and Seniors in July. Our full practice schedule resumes this week in all programs.

London Legion' oudoor schedule now moves to TD Waterhouse for all High School/University endurance, track, jumps and sprints programs. Our elementary T&F track programs also move to TD Waterhouse. All programs try to align as close as possible to our indoor program schedules. Our elementary endurance programs will remain at STA High School on Mon/Wed/ & Friday. All current schedules are located on our TRAINING SCHEDULES page.
All programs at TD Waterhouse require a $25 shoe tag. Pleas contact Joe Ryder at 652-9477 to acquire the tag. We look forward to supporting athletes and coaches for the 2012 Outdoor Season.

Danny Wiley is a graduate from the University of West Georgia where he ran for the West Georgia Wolves as a distance runner in both the track and field and cross country programs.
